CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS DEPARTMENT MANAGER

This position will manage projects, personnel and equipment and department budget and finances for our field construction inspection and testing, laboratory testing and materials engineering and consulting services. Particular focus on structural special inspections including reinforced concrete, shotcrete, post-tensioned concrete, reinforced structural masonry, structural steel, fireproofing, lateral wood framing, cold formed steel and proprietary anchors. These services are provided for a wide array of public and private sector clients for construction quality control, quality assurance and building code compliance as well as engineering consulting and investigation services related to materials selection and assessment for new construction and existing structures. Under the supervision of senior management, promotes services to clients, provides management to all projects to ensure that clients receive high quality technical and engineering services, timely and complete reports and full satisfaction. Supervises the utilization of all personnel, facilities and equipment assigned to the department so as to render a profit to the company and enhance its professional reputation.
Required Qualifications:

MUST BE a Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.)
5 years minimum experience in CMT Special Inspection
2 years minimum experience leading teams of 10 of more

Essential Job Duties Include:

Provides supplemental operating policies and procedures unique to the department to ensure that the testing, engineering and inspection work in the office, laboratory and field are accomplished with high quality and in an orderly and efficient manner.
Participates in the activities related to producing quality engineering and technical services to the client and acts as senior engineer on projects where appropriate.
Supervises the preparation of complex proposals and quotations to clients to ensure proper scoping of services, availability of manpower and pricing to render a profit.
Ensures that all department personnel are properly trained, supervised and equipped with the necessary tools and equipment to ensure their personal safety in the office, laboratory, on construction project sites and in vehicles.
Supervises or monitors all projects in progress in the department to ensure that the work is executed on time and in accordance with the client’s requirements and within company policies, procedures and standards.
Ensures that all departmental personnel adhere to the requirements of the company Quality Assurance and Quality Control policies and procedures.
In accordance with company policies and procedures, evaluates the performance of all employees within the department and assists them in their professional development and growth.
Supervises the efficient utilization of all facilities and equipment assigned to the department and makes request for additional equipment and facilities as needed to meet the client’s demands.
Directs the short-range business development activities of all department personnel to ensure that adequate fees are available to support the manpower on the payroll.
Directly supervises the administrative systems of the department to ensure that reports, proposals, inspections and information required to serve the client are properly prepared and reported. Also ensures that routine company administrative policies are followed by all department personnel such as time sheets, expense reports and purchase order requirements.
Coordinates the inter-departmental and inter-office activities of his or her personnel with joint company efforts where necessary.
Plans, recruits, selects and provides training for all personnel in the department.
